Database Management System and RDBMS (Paper II)

Unit 1 :
Database System Architecture of database system, Benefits of database approach, Application of database, Characteristics of database system, trade - off.

Unit 2 :
Database development process : Key concepts, all types of dependency, concepts of data model, ER model, Hierarchical model, Network model, Object oriented model ,normalization of database, normal form(steps of normalization)

Unit 3 :
Relational algebra ( selection, projection, union, intersection, Cartesian product, join) Structured Query Language (SQL), Data Definition Language (DDL),Data Manipulation Language (DML), Data Control Language (DCL), Transaction Control Language (TCL), PL/SQL, Role of DBA (Database Administrator).

Unit 4 :
Concepts of RDBMS, characteristics of RDBMS, Codd's 12 rule. introduction to oracle tools, security.

Unit 5 :
Different type of database and application, decentralized database, centralized database, application of centralize database, distributed database, application of distributed database.

 

Suggested Readings :

1. Database System Concept By A. Silberschatz, H.F.Korth, S.Sudershan
2. An Introduction to Database Management System By Vipin Desai.
3. Fundamentals of database System By Elmari and Navathe.

Note : The question paper will have the usual note saying " Attempt five queations choosing one from each unit". Thus the paper will clearly specify units, internal choice will be given within each unit to the extent of 100 %.

1. Simple E- R Diagram based on queries.
2. Simple queries based on SQL including set operation and aggregate function.
3. Simple queries bases on SQL including others operators like in operator, between operator, like operators, check operators.
4. Retrieve data from the table using SQL statements.
