Introduction to Web Technology and Internet (Paper - I)

Unit 1 :
Introduction to Programming with VB 6.0, Basic Controls, Validating Inputs, Control Collection, Form Collection, Form Events, Managing Menus, List View Control, Tree View Control, Common Dialog Box, Toolbars, Progress Bar, Compiling VB Application, MDI, Modules, Database Connectivity (using ADO, DAO), Package & Deployment Wizard.

Unit 2 :
Concepts of the Point to Point Broadcast Networks. OSI VS TCP, OSI reference modal, BUS, Ethernet LAN, FDDI, LAN , Token Ring, STAR, HUB, WAN, MAN, TCP/IP, Routers, Get ways. Bridges, Switches , Subnet, Internet and Internet Introduction to TCP/IP and shell account internet addressing.

Unit 3 :
Concepts of ISP (internet Service Provider ), Internet backbones, NAPs, Concepts of URL address , Domain Names Hypertext Concepts and WORLD WIDE WEB, FTP NNTP. The E- mail electronic post service, SMTP, Configuring a computer for an E-mail, free E-mail site and setting e.g. Hotmail, Mailcity, Email with additional features, Web site.

Unit 4 :
Web servers and proxy Server, Web Caches Web Browser like Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Netscape communication suite. Internet viruses, Internet security issues, Embedded and Software base Firewalls, Data Encryption and Digital Signatures and Certificates.

Unit 5 :
The art of creation the Web site and Home pages, The HTML, Programming basics syntax and rules, Tables frames, Forms. Examples of HTML pages, choice of page color, Banners, Linking with HTML page, DIV, SPAN, Meta Tags.
Search Engines for Internet, Spiders, Robots, Bots, Internet Agents ,Mobile agents, Meta search sites. Configurations of Out look express and Front Page.

5. For latest references, Please note as follows number of information technology and internet and web technology books are expected form leading publishers, Tata McGraw Hill . Addition Wesley, Thomson Learning, etc.

Note : The question paper will have the usual note saying " Attenmp five queations choosing one from each unit". Thus the paper will clearly specify units, internal choice will be given within each unit to the extent of 100 %.

9. Understanding of Sites like VSNL, Rediff, Indiainfoline, Zeenext, AOL, Yahoo,Hotmail, Mailcity etc.
10. News service on Internet.
11. Downloading of Tutorials from the Internet from Educational Sites.
12. Using Internet Explorer.
13. Using Netscape Communication Suite.
14. Using Front Page.
15. Minor Project in VB.
